This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our platform at scubadiverlink.com and related mobile applications.
By using ScubaDiverLink, you consent to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our platform.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Account registration details: name, email address, password
- Profile information: dive certifications, specialties, profile photo, bio
- Business information: company name, business address, banking details for payouts via Stripe
- Booking and payment information (payment card data is processed directly by Stripe — we do not store card numbers)
- Communications: messages sent through the platform, support requests, reviews
- Emergency contact information (optional, used only for safety purposes)
- Identity verification documents (certification cards uploaded for admin verification)
Information collected automatically
- Log data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, referring URL, timestamps
- Device information: device type, operating system, unique device identifiers
- Location data: general location inferred from IP address; precise GPS location only with your explicit permission
- Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 7)
- Usage data: features used, search queries, clicks, booking activity
Information from third parties
- Google or Facebook OAuth data (name, email, profile photo) when you choose social sign-in
- Stripe: payment status, payout information, fraud signals
- Weather and marine data providers: publicly available environmental data linked to dive sites
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account and provide platform features
- Process bookings, payments, and refunds
- Facilitate communication between divers, operators, shops, and guides
- Send booking confirmations, receipts, trip reminders, and waiver requests via email or SMS (Twilio)
- Verify certifications and business legitimacy
- Display your public profile (name, certifications, reviews) to other users
- Improve the platform through analytics and usage research
- Send marketing communications (only with your opt-in consent)
- Comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our Terms of Service
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
3. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as follows:
- Between platform users: When you book a trip, your name and contact details are shared with the operator. Operator and shop profiles (including reviews and ratings) are publicly visible.
- Service providers: We use trusted third parties including Stripe (payments), Twilio (SMS), Azure (cloud hosting and storage), Google Maps, and email delivery services. These providers process data only on our instructions.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information where required by law, court order, or governmental authority in Canada or other applicable jurisdictions.
- Business transfers: If ScubaDiverLink is acquired or merges with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on Microsoft Azure servers. We implement industry-standard security measures including TLS encryption in transit, encrypted storage, access controls, and multi-factor authentication for administrative access. Despite these measures, no system is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Certification documents and profile photos are stored in Azure Blob Storage. Payment processing is handled exclusively by Stripe — we never store full credit card numbers.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 90 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, tax, or regulatory compliance (typically up to 7 years for financial records).
6. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Data portability (receive a copy of your data in a structured format)
- Withdraw consent at any time (for marketing communications)

7. Cookies

8. Children's Privacy
ScubaDiverLink is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. International Users
If you access ScubaDiverLink from outside Canada, your information may be transferred to and processed in Canada or other countries where our service providers operate. By using our platform, you consent to this transfer.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or prominent notice on the platform at least 14 days before changes take effect.
